Our programmes Developing World Infrastructure Public Education How to apply

The Trust is endowed with some of the proceeds from the 2006 sale of “Trade Me”, the New Zealand internet auction site. The objective of the trustees is to use the funds for philanthropic endeavour with the priorities being;
  • To reduce income and wealth inequities by assisting those at most disadvantage
  • To provide a humanitarian response to those in need
  • To HAVE FUN participating in the above
Necessarily it is the case that most of the Trust's financial assistance finds its way to people in the poorest parts of the world. It is here where each dollar can have the most impact, as measured by outcomes per dollar spent. However the Trust is a New Zealand-originated endeavour and insofar as it can meet the above objectives and involve New Zealanders, it will. In this context the trustees endeavour to;
  • Participate in some regional New Zealand projects, with emphasis on involving local communities
  • Fund overseas projects that have a New Zealand on-the-ground involvement, most commonly by volunteers

Some Of Our Programmes

Kiwi Heroes

The number of New Zealanders making improvements to the lives of those in the world that have nowhere near the advantages we do, is staggering. Our global motorcycle travels in particular have enabled us to reach several of these unsung heroes making a world of difference to the desperate plight of others. It has been a privilege for us to be able to provide some financial assistance to help these great people continue their work.

For some examples of those we have been privileged to reach, go here.

New Zealand Communities

Our business in New Zealand - Gareth Morgan Investments (GMI) - manages people's savings portfolios. GMI has a client base that is New Zealand wide and so we spend a considerable amount of time moving around the country visiting clients. Those travels expose us to the issues that effect the regions, the projects, the causes and the aspirations of the communities and their elected leaders. This exposure has led us to launch our "New Zealand Communities" programme the objective of which is to help fund those projects or activities that the community sees as a priority. We enter these assignments as joint-funders working alongside community leaders and the local protagonists concerned. For some examples of those we have been able to assist go here.
